BrokenHill Emmy is back, and this with time in “Our Leaders ” he’s not sugar-coating a damn thing. “Our Leaders” is the musical equivalent of walking into a political rally and unplugging the speakers mid-speech raw, inconvenient, and painfully honest.
While most artists are out here recycling love songs, hustle anthems, and “I made it out of the trenches” speeches, Emmy decides to do something dangerous: tell the truth. And in Zambia, truth hits harder than an unpaid ZESCO bill.
The song dives straight into the nonsense we see every election cycle. Politicians show up with flashy handouts bags of mealie meal, t-shirts, a few kwacha notes as if poverty can be wiped away with a t-shirt written “Vote for me.” Emmy calls it out with zero hesitation.
He drags the leaders who buy million-kwacha luxury cars while the roads they use look like training grounds for off-road competitions.
He points at the same people who rush to South Africa or India for medical checkups, while the hospitals back home don’t even have painkillers, gloves, or working BP machines.
And of course, he doesn’t forget the favourite trick:
Hire popular musicians to perform at rallies and pretend it’s “development”.
Because apparently, the sound of a hit song is supposed to distract people from the fact that teachers haven’t been paid and clinics have empty shelves.
Every bar in “Our Leaders” feels like a mirror held up to the country uncomfortable, necessary, and long overdue. It’s political commentary disguised as rap, and Emmy executes it with the frustration of someone who’s been watching the same movie for decades.
But here’s the irony:
This kind of song is exactly what people want to hear but exactly what politicians hate to hear. It’s too real, too direct, too bold. Emmy isn’t begging for approval he’s exposing the mess with style.
The production is minimal, letting his words punch through clearly. That’s the point. This isn’t a club banger. It’s a wake-up call. A reminder that leadership is more than loud promises, campaign music, and drama on social media.
“Our Leaders” is for every Zambian tired of the circus, tired of excuses, tired of leaders who care more about status than service.
