Drama and Anger Erupt at Chilenje Hospital After Young Woman Dies During Childbirth

Chilenje Hospital Attacked After Woman And Unborn Baby Die.Emotions boiled over at Chilenje Level 1 Hospital after the tragic death of 23-year-old Bartha Mwashampili, who reportedly passed away while in labor, with her unborn baby still in her womb.

Witnesses say tension filled the air as her body was being prepared for transfer to UTH, with grieving family members openly confronting medical staff, accusing the Labor Ward of negligence and lack of urgency during her final hours.

“They are not here to work, they are just here to drink tea,” one elderly woman shouted in frustration, as shocked onlookers gathered around. Another furious relative went even further, bitterly remarking, “This is not Chilenje Clinic, this is Chilenje Killing,” words that quickly spread among those present.

The scene quickly turned into a painful outpouring of similar stories, as another woman claimed she also lost her child in labor last year under what she described as poor care at the same facility. Her story only added fuel to the already emotional crowd.

Several women at the scene were heard demanding immediate action from the Ministry of Health, calling for all staff at the Labor Ward to be transferred, saying patients no longer feel safe delivering from there.

While hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, the tragedy has sparked heated conversations both at the hospital and online, with many calling for investigations and improvements in maternal care.

For now, one family mourns a daughter who walked into the hospital hoping to welcome new life, but instead left in silence ,with both mother and child gone.
